Barcarolle (Belle nuit, o nuit d’amour)

From the “The Tales of Hoffmann”, Jacques Offenbach’s final opera, “Belle nuit, o nuit d’amour” is often called simply “Barcarolle”. A barcarolle is actually a style of romantic melody and this is considered the most famous one ever written. There is a long but pretty instrumental introduction to the video below. Be patient. Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca are extraordinary. If the melody sounds familiar to you, but you are not sure why, check out Elvis Presley’s song, “Tonight Is So Right For Love”
