Every Breath You Take

A mid-tempo soft rock ballad by written by Sting and recorded on “The Police” album, “Synchronicity” in 1983. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for eight weeks. Sting wrote it at a particularly difficult time in his life when he was separated from his wife after an affair with one of her friends. He was disconcerted by how many people think the song is a positive love song when in his mind, the lyrics about obsession with a lost lover and jealousy are “sinister”.
