A country ballad written in 1959 and originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell. It is the story of a lover who chooses to die rather than reveal his affair with his best friend’s wife. Frizell’s version is preserved in the Library of Congress as ‘culturally, historically or aesthetically significant”. This tab is based on a cover by Mick Jagger singing with The Chieftains on their album named “The Long Black Veil”.
