The Coast of Malabar

An nostalgic Irish love ballad written in 1897 by Frederick E. Weatherly and Stephen Adams. Malabar is the region of the south-west coast of India which was well-known for the spice trade. The song has several other names, most notably “The Little Maid of Malabar” and there are also various, but similar, versions of the lyrics. This TAB is based largely on the cover by Ry Cooder with The Chieftains. It has also been recorded by Sean Tyrell, Jimmy Crowley, Johnny McEvoy and Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers.
