A popular “chanson” which appeared during the Franco-Dutch War (1672-78). The singer is a young woman lamenting that her husband is a prisoner of war in Holland. She misses sleeping with him and says that she would trade the wealth of France, including Notre Dame, the Palace of Versailles and all of Paris, to have him back. The fact that the tune is jaunty and repetitive made it well-suited to military marches and drinking songs. I have included the full lyrics in French with this post, but have tabbed only one verse since the other ten follow the same melody.
