I’ll Never Smile Again

In 1939 Ruth Loewe of Toronto wrote this sad but beautiful song. She had been married only two years when she lost her beloved husband during an operation; she was 23 years old. Ruth was what was called a “song-plugger”. Her job was to sing and play the piano in music stores and theatres to promote songs. With the success of this song, her future was secure. Written on the eve of World War Two, the song strongly resonated with not only soldiers, but those who waited for them at home. When he recorded it in 1940, it became Frank Sinatra’s first big hit.

This tab is a bit of a challenge to play since it requires the elusive “C” note a number of times. I’ve posted two tabs with different fingering. Take your pick.
