Most successfully recorded by Tommy Edwards in 1968, it has been covered by dozens of artist including Cliff Richard, Merle Haggard, Van Morrison and The Four Tops. The original melody was written by Charles G. Dawes, later VP of the US under Calvin Coolidge.
