Originally a minstrel song first published in 1914, it was adopted as the state song of Missouri in 1949 after the first set of lyrics, considered racist, were re-written. It has been covered by a number of artists including Eddie Arnold, Bing Crosby, Gene Autry, Perry Como and Johnny Cash. I really like the a capella version sung by Marideth Sisco for the opening scene of the 2010 film, “Winter’s Bone” and have based my TAB on it.
