My Funny Valentine (Merlin)

Written in 1937 by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart for the musical “Babes in Arms”, this song became a popular jazz standard and has been performed by over 600 artists. It was Chet Baker’s signature song. The derogatory lyrics, (“Your looks are laughable, unphotographable”) apparently reflect Hart’s own belief that he was too short and ugly to be loved. Ironic… since this is one of the most-loved love songs of all time.
