Makin’ Whoopee

First popularized by Eddie Cantor in 1928, this jazz/blues standard has been covered dozens of times from Bing Crosby to Harry Nilsson and Doris Day to Cyndi Lauper. The lyrics vary from performer to performer and so does the style of singing them.  I haven’t modelled this TAB on any one interpretation. Although one of my favourite versions is by Dr. John and Ricki Lee Jones, I can’t resist the youtube of Michelle Pfeiffer singing it on top of a piano in the 1989 film, “The Fabulous Baker Boys”. She manages to be both hilariously campy and totally gorgeous at the same time.
