The Wind That Shakes the Barley

An Irish ballad written by Robert Dwyer Joyce about a doomed young man who sacrifices his love to plunge into the violence of the 1798 rebellion in Ireland. Rebels often carried barley in their pockets as provisions. When after battles they were buried in mass graves, huge crops of barley would subsequently mark the spot. There are a number of variations to the melody. I choose this version as the easiest for the strumstick.
